Ride the Gondola for a New Perspective

A ride on the Atlantic Gondola will take you to the summit of Cape Smokey mountain, where you will find expansive views of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the Atlantic Ocean, the Keltic Lodge, and Ingonish. Grab a snack and a cold drink from the Summit Shack, take a walk through nature and learn about the history of our area, go kayaking on Hawley lake, and maybe see some wildlife. Please wear shoes with good traction and we’ll see you at the top!

Tickets can be purchased online in advance. We do not book dates or time slots, there is always room for you to come and enjoy! Gondola tickets are good for any day between now and October 29, 2023, we are open at 10am and the last ride up is at 6pm.

A view from the top

The views from the top of Cape Smokey are unique and vast. Not only will you see the Cabot trail, village of Ingonish, the national park and the Keltic Lodge, you will see Ingonish Island, fishing boats coming and going and maybe even a whale tail in the distance! When you purchase a ticket to ride the Atlantic Gondola you have the opportunity to do some much more than just take a ride. Visit the Summit Shack for a cold beverage and a snack, rent a kayak and take a paddle on Hawley's Lake or sign up for a Guided Hike to learn about the local flora and fauna and the history of this beautiful area. When the timing is right, take in the Burning of the Fog which is the magical experience of the the fog melting away to reveal the incredible landscape and hear about how Cape Smokey got its name.
